January 2018 – Nestled in the heart of French Catalonia, the four-star stunning castle of Château de Riell, offers the perfect hideaway for those looking to relax, rewind and rejuvenate in 2018. Offering breath-taking views of Mount Canigou, Château de Riell is surrounded by the peaks of the Pyrenees mountains, offering spectacular walking, cycling and climbing adventures. The charming hotel belongs to the Barthélémy-Guérard Family Houses which includes the five-star sister hotel ‘Les Prés d’Eugénie’ and the stunning ‘La Bastide in Gascony.’ Embodying the very best in French gastronomy, spa and hospitality, Château de Riell and its sister properties offer the ultimate experience from the legendary Guérard Family.
Situated in the small spa village of Molitg-les-Bains, guests at Château de Riell can experience the natural mineral composition of the 18,000-year-old thermal waters which are renowned for their rejuvenating properties. The hotel celebrates the very finest of Catalonian cuisine, with dishes inspired by the Pyrenean grasslands that surround the property.
The Hotel – Nestled in the 60-hectare estate of Molitg, Château de Riell offers 19 unique rooms situated in a historic castle. The rooms include four cottages which are tucked away in the beautifully landscaped gardens, as well as sumptuous suites and deluxe rooms. All the rooms have been decorated by the owner, Biche Barthélémy, with Pierre Frey fabrics to give each one a unique combination of French, English, Spanish and Colonial styles which all marry together to create the perfect space to relax. The two swimming pools fit seamlessly into the landscape, and after a swim, guests can unwind on one of the hotel’s terraces amidst the heavy aroma of pines and oleander trees.
The Restaurant and Bars – Celebrating the cuisine which Catalonia has become famed for, Chef Sebastian Nouveau and his skilled team at Château de Riell trained at the Institute Michel Guérard. Guests can enjoy seasonal menus which include dishes inspired by the Pyrenean grounds that surround the hotel and embody passion for fresh, local produce. Succulent lamb, wood mushrooms and Catalonian style snails are just some of the incredible culinary creations just waiting to be experienced. During the cooler months of Spring and Autumn, guests can dine around the warmth of an open-hearth, whilst in the heat of the summer there is no better spot for al fresco dining than on the hotel’s terrace. Guests are sure to be surprised and delighted by the discovery of the Safari Bar which is a real flavour of ‘Out of Africa,’ providing the perfect spot for an aperitif. For those wanting a private dinner or a fun soiree with friends, the hotel’s very own dungeon is available, complete with gothic style stone vaults.
The Spa – At Château de Riell, guests are surrounded by history and beauty, and a short five-minute walk from the hotel leads guests to the spa where they can relax in the Roman Baths sculpted from rare marbles. An 18,000-year-old thermal pool hidden amidst the foliage reveals warm waters with a mineral composition that is said to rejuvenate the body and mind. The spa’s philosophy is centred on natural wellness, offering treatments such as the white clay bath to leave skin looking radiant, and the thermal mist bath with black light to ensure complete relaxation.
Exploring The Outdoors – With so much outstanding natural beauty right on the doorstep, guests will struggle to ignore the call of the great outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, cycling or climbing the spectacular canyon, guests will find several trails leading from the hotel which are perfect for all levels of ability.
